LAYTONBERTH

I take products from idea to in-production — and stay for the part where real users show up.

About

Hi, I'm Layton.

I'm a full-stack software engineer in Bruges, currently at Libaro. I build products end to end — data model, API, interface, deploy — mostly with Laravel, Vue and TypeScript for Belgian clients in IoT, EMS and commerce.

Before that I spent a year at CERN in Geneva on mission-critical internal systems, and earlier I built a logistics/PIM platform from scratch for an Ostend company. Careful shipping and clear documentation stuck.

Off the clock I play futsal and build small tools that do one thing well. The one that outgrew that habit is Replai — now a real product rather than a weekend experiment.

For larger engagements — bigger teams, longer runways — I work through my studio, Orbit Studio ↗.

What you can hire me for

Product engineering

Web applications end to end in Laravel, Vue and TypeScript — from data model to deploy, including the unglamorous reliability work after launch.

Laravel · Vue · TypeScript

AI and RAG integration

Assistants and search grounded in a company's own documents and systems, not generic chatbots. Retrieval, embeddings and model calls wired into a real product.

Retrieval · embeddings · vector search

Legacy modernisation

Untangling and speeding up systems that have been running for years, until they are safe to change again. The discipline I learned on mission-critical internal platforms at CERN.

Upgrades · tests · CI

Currently building Replai — grounded AI support that answers from a company's own sources and can act on its systems.

Experience

Where I've worked

  1. Full-stack work for Belgian clients across IoT, energy management and POS: a visual automation builder that lets EMS clients configure their own device rules instead of filing development requests, RAG-backed support assistants grounded in customer documentation, and third-party POS/billing integrations.

  2. FAP-BC department in Geneva: modernised internal apps used by ~3,000 employees (PANDA, Reorg Tool, APT) — dynamic SVG organigrams, attestation automation, and major legacy performance wins.

  3. Built a logistics & PIM platform from scratch in Ostend — Laravel, Filament, Redis, GraphQL/REST sync across webshops, warehouse scanner apps, and consented product data scraping.

  4. Summer contract in Ostend: launched a Shopify webshop with custom CSS, scripted bulk record operations and supplier file conversions, and contributed logo and advertising design.

  5. Magna Cum Laude (80%) in Bruges — including international SAP/BIP project work across Europe.

New case studies are being written. In the meantime, the fastest way to see what I build is to ask.
